Mrs. Wichita America, Rachel Abdulaziz, will compete for the Mrs. Kansas America title at a pageant this weekend in Branson, Mo.

On Friday, she reported through Facebook page: “I have arrived in Branson safely. Having a great time with the ladies. Working hard on memorizing the opening number. Tomorrow will be filled with practice and interview. Thanks for all your love and encouragement!”

Abdulaziz said she entered the pageant to promote and raise awareness of the Children’s Organ Transplant Association and the Chelsea Hutchinson Foundation. The Colorado-based foundation provides support for people with epilepsy, especially by helping provide them with trained companion dogs that can sense an oncoming seizure.

She said she was inspired to take up those causes by local children she has known, including Wichita twins who both required life-saving liver transplants and a young girl who suffers from grand mal seizures.

As Mrs. Wichita, she has also participated in several local fund-raisers, including the SOC (Save Our Circle) walk benefitting the Arc of Sedgwick County, a charity serving persons with mental disabilities; and auctioning a formal gown to benefit a member of the Wichita Cheer Elite Cheer raising funds to participate in national competition.

“I love the current title I hold because it gives me the opportunity to inspire a wide array of people from married women to young children,” she said.

Abdulaziz is 25, has no children and is a student at Wichita State University.

The Mrs. Kansas state pageant will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Welk Theatre and Resort in Branson..

Tickets are $25. Tickets for an after party are $12 for adults. Children’s tickets are $7.
