Facebook claim of being police officer leads to arrest of Wichita man

  • Published Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at 11:06 a.m.

A Wichita man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of impersonating a cop on Facebook.

Police were contacted by a person upset by “disparaging comments” posted on the social media site by a 28-year-old man who listed his occupation on Facebook as a Wichita police officer, Lt. Doug Nolte said.

In reviewing the man’s Facebook page, “he was clearly representing himself as a police officer,” Nolte said. “That is a crime.”

The man was arrested after questioning. There is no evidence linking the man to previous law enforcement impersonation cases, Nolte said.
