The Health and Wellness Coalition of Wichita is accepting applications for the 2013 Working Well Award. The award is for employers in Sedgwick County that provide “a supportive and rewarding environment for their employees to make positive healthy lifestyle changes,” according to a news release.
“We really want to reward the companies that are doing health promotion at the work site,” said Debbie Williams, healthy community director with the Health and Wellness Coalition of Wichita and the Greater Wichita YMCA.
“For employers, we’re trying to help them realize that by offering health promotion, they can potentially see some of the health care expenditures reduce.” Williams said. “We’re really looking at trying to prevent chronic disease.”The winners are selected by a committee of local professionals. Among the aspects judged will be applicants’ ability to “capture CEO support, create a cohesive wellness team, collect data to drive health efforts, craft an operating plan, choose appropriate interventions, create a supportive environment, and carefully evaluate outcomes.”
The coalition has been giving the award since 2004, Williams said.
Last year’s winners were Cessna for large employers, IMA for small employers and ICM Inc. out of Colwich for novice employers.
This year, the new categories are Small Employer with 100 or fewer employees, Medium Employer with 101 to 500 employees and Large Employers with more than 500 employees.
Winners will be honored at the 2013 Working Well Conference on Aug. 20.
