Hypocrite (noun). Definition: A president who flies frequently on the world’s most expensive airplane for the purpose of complaining about CEOs owning private jets.

With nearly half of Detroit property owners unable to pay their property taxes, how can the president state that the economy is getting better?

Why should the taxpayers spend $50 billion to restore beachfront property from a hurricane? Didn’t those people have insurance? We restore their beachfront property so the value of their businesses increase at our expense. I bet there will be no accountability on the money.

John McCain’s big problem with Chuck Hagel is an enlisted man moving into officer quarters.

The Eagle editorial “Lawmakers gone wild” (Feb. 24 Opinion) was excellent, but unfortunately only touched the tip of the iceberg on the irresponsible bills. There are too many to count, especially the onslaught toward public schools. The educational standing of our schools is miraculous compared with the funding they receive.

The day after the first snow, I got stuck at 38th Street North and Webb. Less than five minutes later, this gentleman stopped behind me with a shovel and went to work. A wonderfully nice person.

Why weren’t some of the main streets thoroughly plowed? We can afford an arena, we can afford “artwork,” we can afford for the mayor to take his little trips to nowhere, but we can’t afford essential services?

The U.S. Postal Service should take some lessons on delivery from The Wichita Eagle. I received a paper every day after last week’s snowstorm. I can’t say the same about my mail.

I wonder why condoms are not advertised on daytime TV but diapers are.
