Learn more about dogs and get up close and personal with more than a dozen breeds when the Wichita Kennel Club presents “Meet the Breeds” on Sunday at Century II.

The free event, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Concert Hall foyer, is held in conjunction with the 27th annual “Art Show at the Dog Show” canine-related art competition and exhibit, which will be on display at the Sunflower Cluster Dog Show in April.

“Meet the Breeds” is a chance for people to learn about purebred dogs and what breed might be right for them, said Mike Williams, corresponding secretary for the kennel club. “If you are thinking about getting a dog, it’s an opportunity to visit with a breeder and educate yourself to make the right decision,” he said.

Breeds at the event will include Australian shepherds, Doberman pinschers, golden retrievers, Borzoi, Shiba Inus, Salukis, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Dalmatians, shar-peis, Havanese and miniature and standard poodles, Williams said.

All will be available for petting. “You can pet the dog, you can hold the dog,” Williams said.

The third-annual event will also include a demonstration by the Kansas Search and Rescue Dog Association.

Entries from “Art Show at the Dog Show,” a national juried fine-arts competition dedicated to canine art, will be on display in the foyer, before they move to the Sunflower Cluster Dog Show, April 5-8 at the Kansas Pavilions.
