Mavericks edge Thunder in shootout

Evan Vossen’s goal in the sixth round of the shootout give the Missouri Mavericks at 5-4 win over the Thunder on Saturday night in Independence, Mo.

The Thunder led 2-0 midway through the opening period, but Missouri scored the next four goals to build a 4-2 lead by the 15-minute mark of the second period. Wichita pulled even with two goals in the final 2 1/2 minutes of the second period, the second coming from Chad Painchaud with three seconds left before intermission.

RG Flath had two goals for Wichita, Andrew Martens had three assists and Painchaud added two assists in addition to his goal.

Before the game Wichita signed goalie Dan Dunn to a five-game contract.
