Southbound I-135 was closed north of Central from 3:30 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. Saturday after a piece of equipment being used by the Kansas Department of Transportation during snow removal efforts damaged an overhead sign.
Tom Hein, KDOT spokesman, said he didn’t know which piece of equipment hit the sign. The damage compromised the sign’s structure, and cranes were used to remove the sign, he said.
Traffic was diverted off the highway at the Eighth and Ninth Street exit.
KDOT crews were removing snow that piled up on the right and left shoulders of the elevated portion of I-135 when the accident happened, he said.
