Wichita police said Tuesday that a man is suspected of firing a shot that wounded a dog in the 1000 block of North Mathewson.

The shooting occurred about 2:15 a.m. Monday after an argument between an 18-year-old suspect and a 46-year-old man, police Lt. Doug Nolte said. Police suspect the younger man of pulling out a gun and shooting the dog in a fenced area outside a home. The 46-year-old who had come out onto a porch, ran back into the house after the shooting, Nolte said.

He said police could seek charges of criminal discharge of a firearm and animal cruelty. He didn’t know the dog’s condition. Police were looking for a second suspect in the incident.
