Creighton women beat WSU, pull within one game in MVC

Creighton made half its shots against Wichita State’s women’s basketball team and got itself back in the Missouri Valley Conference race with the Shockers.

The Bluejays, who hit 59 percent of their first-half shots, beat the Shockers 56-46 to get within a game of first-place WSU with five games remaining.

WSU (17-8, 11-2) was led by Michelle Price’s 15 points and seven rebounds, but the Shockers shot 35.4 percent as they tried to complete a weekend two-game road sweep. Michelle Dapprich added eight points.

Alexis Akin-Otiko came off the bench to make 6 of 10 shots for 13 points and eight rebounds for Creighton (18-6, 10-3). Teammate Marissa Janning had 12 points.

WSU plays host to Evansville at 7 p.m. Thursday in Koch Arena.
