Newman men remain tied for conference lead

Newman leaped to an early lead and easily beat Oklahoma Panhandle State 74-60 and remained tied for the Heartland Conference lead.

Newman (18-4, 8-3 Heartland) scored the game’s first 11 points, and stretched the advantage to 24-7 with 8:19 left in the half. The lead grew to 21 points midway through the second half, and Panhandle State (5-19, 1-10) never cut the lead under 10 the rest of the night.

Marquis Cuyler led Newman with 20 points, and Darrell Traylor had 10 points and eight rebounds.

Newman and Arkansas-Fort Smith are tied for the Heartland Conference lead with four games left in the regular season. Newman plays host to Texas-Permian Basin on Saturday, then plays Arkansas-Forth Smith on Feb. 23 in the Jets’ final home game of the regular season.
