Authorities are investigating a report that a special-needs child was slapped by a school bus driver Tuesday morning.
The 5-year-old girl told her father she was slapped in the face, according to a police report. The 60-year-old driver reported to his employer, First Student, that “an incident” had occurred on the bus, said Lt. Jeff Weible of the Exploited and Missing Child Unit.
“The child has no injuries,” Weible said.
The incident was reported in the 200 block of North McComas.
The child is a student at OK Elementary, according to USD 259 spokeswoman Wendy Johnson.
“I can tell you that the driver will not be driving on any Wichita Public Schools routes in the future,” Johnson said.
The driver is no longer employed by First Student, district spokeswoman Susan Arensman said.
