A parolee who was arrested last week at the end of a chase involving a stolen van was charged Monday with theft and attempting to elude police.

Police said Steve Percival, 36, stole the van on the morning of Feb. 4 in the 1200 block of West McCormick after a man went outside to warm it up so he could take his pregnant wife to the hospital. Police said the van rode over several spike strips during the chase and was driven on its rims before stopping in the 800 block of West Harry.

Percival, 36, who is on parole for robbery and attempted burglary, was ordered to return to court Feb. 25 for a preliminary hearing on the new charges.
