A 28-year-old Goddard woman is in critical condition after she was stabbed multiple times in her home Friday afternoon, a Goddard police official said.

The woman’s estranged husband, 28, was arrested following the alleged attack and was expected to be booked into Sedgwick County Jail late Friday on attempted first-degree murder charges, Goddard Police Chief Sam Houston said.

The woman was undergoing surgery Friday evening at Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis, where she was taken after the incident, Houston said. She suffered multiple knife wounds to her neck, throat, chest and leg, he said.

The stabbing was reported shortly after 5 p.m. at a home in the 600 block of North Goddard Road in Goddard, south of U.S. 54.

The woman’s five children were home during the alleged attack, Houston said; none were hurt. Their ages range from 3 to 13, he said.

Houston said the couple had not been living together and a domestic dispute likely led to the stabbing.
