  • Published Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at 12 a.m.

Horses and their people will gather this weekend at the Kansas Pavilions, 1229 E. 85th St. North, Valley Center, for EquiFest of Kansas, an event in its 16th year that will run Friday through Sunday.

EquiFest attracts horses, horse lovers, horse breeders, world-class clinicians and more for a weekend of equestrian seminars, showcases and demonstrations.

There are also vendors selling everything from jewelry to farm supplies.

Speakers this year will include Charles Throckmorton, head instructor of The Four Winds Equestrian Show Facility in Salem, Wis., and Guy McLean, an accomplished horseman from Australia.

Among the highlights of the event will be a “Cowboy Drag Race,” scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, which will feature eight “extreme cowboys” racing horses through obstacle courses.

Doors open at 9 a.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission for adults is $15 a day or $40 for a three-day pass. Children ages 6-12 are $8 a day or $18 for a three-day pass. Children 5 and under get in free.
