Bentley school in running for online video contest to win library materials

Bentley Primary School hopes to win an online contest to get up to $60,000 worth of software and other materials for its library.

The K-3 school in the Halstead-Bentley district is in the running for prizes through the Follett Challenge if it is among the top vote-getters by March 15.

School librarian MaryKay Raple and other officials put together a video showcasing reading and technology activities at the school, including its recent Read Like a Pirate Day. The background music is a “Gangnam Style” spoof Raple helped write: “Reading Bentley Style.”

“We’re just trying to put the word out everywhere, because we’re a tiny little school” and the only one in the Wichita area participating in the online contest, she said.

People can vote once each day after they register a valid e-mail address. To see the school’s video or vote, go to www.follettchallenge.com and search for Bentley Style.

Raple, the librarian, said the school would use any winnings to update its library holdings with more reading materials and teacher resources.
