A 19-year-old Mulvane man suffered critical injuries Saturday when his car slammed into two trees on K-15, east of Greenwich Road.

Sumner County sheriff’s Sgt. Roger Church said first responders found the Honda Civic “wrapped around a tree” after 5 p.m. The man — its sole occupant — was rushed to Wesley Medical Center by Mulvane Emergency Medical Services.

The extent of the man’s injuries was unknown by Church. Authorities think the impact threw him from the car.

The 19-year-old was driving south in the 1300 block of K-15 when he passed two other vehicles on the right shoulder, Church said. The driver lost control and crossed the two-lane highway, then hit the trees.

No other vehicles sustained damage. No one else was hurt.

Church said speed likely played a role in the crash. The driver showed no immediate signs of alcohol or other chemical impairment, he said.
