He was walking along Main Street in broad daylight Tuesday when he felt someone pulling his backpack off, police said.

“ ‘If you say anything, I’m going to kill you,’ ” the unseen man said to the 50-year-old homeless victim, according to Lt. Doug Nolte.

But the victim was able to pull his cellphone out of the backpack before the robber took off in the 700 block of North Main at about 11:45 a.m., Nolte said. He called 911, and officers were able to respond quickly and found the suspect with the backpack.

The 26-year-old man was arrested, Nolte said.
