A man and his 2-year-old goddaughter escaped injury when someone opened fire on their car in west Wichita on Monday night, police said.

The man had just pulled into the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 6800 block of West Par at about 7 p.m. Monday when he saw flashes and heard something hit his lime green Crown Victoria, Lt. Joe Schroeder said. The 21-year-old man grabbed his goddaughter and ran to his sister’s apartment, which is southeast of Central and Ridge Road.

Police found two bullet holes in the car and one slug inside the passenger cabin, Schroeder said. They also found four shell casings between two buildings at the complex.

The man told police two men may be responsible. They left in a 1990s white Firebird or Camaro, he said.
