A Wichita police officer sustained minor injuries Monday after his patrol car crashed at 13th and Chautauqua, near Hillside, while pursuing a fleeing motorcycle, the Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said.

The chase began at about 10 a.m. and reached 70 mph before police lost the motorcyclist near 13th and Holyoke, the dispatcher said.

The patrol car sustained minor damage after it crashed into a downed tree in a construction zone on the northeast corner of 13th and Chautauqua.

The motorcyclist was described as being a white man in his 30s with a scruffy beard, brown hair, about 5-foot-8 and 160 pounds. He was wearing a black or dark jacket and had his helmet hanging from his motorcycle, which was described as green and a sport style.

A similar description was given of a man and motorcycle police were chasing last week, the dispatcher said.
