The evening started innocently enough Friday night.
A 20-year-old man and his girlfriend invite a 33-year-old male friend over to their house in the 300 block of N. Edwards.
The men begin drinking. Heavily.
By this time, it is early Saturday morning and the 20-year-old man has suspected the 33-year-old is making sexual advances toward his girlfriend.
First, there is the verbal argument.
Then comes a physical fight – during which the 33-year-old man pulls out a handgun and puts it into the 20-year-old man’s face and begins clubbing him with it.
Rounds of bullets are fired and the discharged bullets hit the walls of the house.
The 20-year old man grabs a broken stairwell baluster and stabs the 33-year-old with it, then grabs a knife and stabs him again.
Police are called to the house at about 2:25 a.m. on Saturday, according to Wichita police Sgt. Bart Brunscheen.
The 33-year-old man was taken to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis in critical condition.
The 20-year-old man was taken to City Hall, interviewed by police detectives, then released.
The 33-year-old man remained Sunday in the hospital under observation, Brunscheen said.
