Despite a fire that heavily damaged one of their buildings on Wednesday, owners of Hanna Heating and Air, which has been in business for about 29 years, will remain open.

“I don’t even know how to begin to describe the shock of having your family business and livelihood burn down in a fire,” said Trent Hanna, vice president of production.

“We’re just going to carry on. That’s all people can do.”

The fire heavily damaged the company’s sheet metal production fabrication shop and equipment storage building in the 200 block of North West Street. The office building north of that location did not catch on fire.

The fire broke out about 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, closing a portion of West Street for several hours while crews worked to put it out.

Hanna said no one was in the building when the fire took place.

“Everything lost can and will be replaced,” he said.

In the meantime, Hanna Heating and Air has other locations it will work out of, including one at 21st and Andover Road and one in Newton.

“We still have the capacity to do everything we did prior to the fire,” Hanna said. “It’s just added confusion to change our system.”

While fire officials told media that the preliminary damage estimate was $1 million, Hanna says the company hasn’t had time to develop an estimate and is working with its insurance company.

To his knowledge, investigation of what caused the fire has been turned over to the insurance company, Hanna said.
