Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers said Wednesday that construction has begun on a new restaurant in Joplin, Mo., to replace one destroyed in the May 2011 tornado.

Officials from Wichita-based Freddy’s said Jason Ingermanson of Salina is its Joplin franchisee, who has begun construction on the new restaurant near the corner of 32nd and Range Line Road.

The 3,500-square-foot store will be located in a new shopping district and is expected to be open in May. The Freddy’s store that was destroyed was at a different location, 1503 S. Range Line.
