An Olathe police officer shot and killed a man who pulled a gun on him Friday night inside a Dollar General store, police said.

The dead man was identified Saturday as Cody M. Kincheloe, 21, of Olathe.

The officer was not hurt and there were no other injuries in the incident that occurred about 8 p.m. at 112 N. Clairborne Road, east of Interstate 35 and south of Santa Fe Street.

Olathe police spokesman Sgt. Grant Allen said the officer responded at 7:47 p.m. to a report of a car traveling east in the westbound lanes on Santa Fe.

The officer found the suspect car in the parking lot at the Dollar General store. Witnesses said the driver had entered the store.

Allen said the officer went inside and was confronted by the man, who displayed a handgun. The officer then shot the suspect, who died at the scene.

An occupant of the suspect vehicle is being questioned.

As a matter of standard procedure, the officer was placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation by the Johnson County MultiJurisdictional Officer Involved Shooting Investigation Team, Allen said.
