How about training Afghan troops to train their Afghan troops, rather than leaving American forces there after 2014 to train Afghans? A year should allow enough time to train Afghans so we can get our troops out of there. We have already sacrificed too many lives there.
When the churches start really taking care of the poor and disadvantaged instead of building monuments to money, then I would agree to continue their tax-exempt status. Until then, they should be taxed like any other business.

How sad when people feel the need to compare the anti-abortion agenda to the Newtown, Conn., tragedy. There is no comparison. Abortion usually involves choice. The Newtown parents and families had no choice in whether their loved ones lived or died. That heinous decision was made by the shooter.

I read the gun-control articles in the paper and listened to the Sunday-morning political pundits. My take: The operative word is “control.” You can leave the word “gun” out. Some of the political types and pundits were practically soiling their underwear in glee about the prospect of increased gun control.
How subhuman do people have to be before they start throwing their trash, including cigarette butts, out of their vehicle instead of disposing of it at home? It makes me wonder what their homes looks like.
First the state tells me I can’t smoke several places because it is not good for me. Now my employer tells me I can’t smoke while driving my truck at work because it’s not good for me. What’s next? I can’t eat certain food because it’s not good for me? What is happening to America?
