A man wielding a knife and gun robbed a woman after following her into her south Wichita house Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The incident occurred at about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 1300 block of South Laura, Lt. Doug Nolte said. That is southeast of Lincoln and Washington.

The 32-year-old woman went out to her car to get something, Nolte said, and when she returned to the house the suspect followed her in without her permission. He pulled out a fixed-blade knife and demanded money, but she began to fight with him.

He hit her in the forehead with his handgun and took $80 in cash from her before leaving the house and walking north on Laura, Nolte said. The victim suffered cut fingers and bruising on her forehead, but did not require treatment at a hospital.

The suspect sustained a one-inch cut on his left cheek from the fight, Nolte said. He is a black man between the ages of 20 and 24 with a thin build, the victim told police.

He wore a gray knit cap, red plaid pajama pants, a black suede jacket and a white tank top underneath the jacket.
