Optometrist eyes Old Town for new office and store

Jim Jury sees a new Old Town location for his business through rose colored glasses.

Jury, an optometrist and owner of Jury Eyecare, hopes to open his newest location at 926 E. Douglas in mid to late spring.

For 25 years, he has practiced several hours away in Liberal, but is now slowly transitioning to work primarily in the Wichita area.

“In Liberal, we built a large practice with another optometrist and eye surgeon,” Jury said. “We’re trying to move away from that clinical setting you often see and move toward something more marketable and more personalized.”

Six years ago, Jury and his wife, Sharon, moved to Old Town. Four years ago, he opened Jury Eyecare in Derby, 1918 N. Rock Road.

“We really have enjoyed downtown activities, the shops, restaurants, entertainment venues, Delano and Old Town,” Jury said. “This is a natural progression for us to be part of the business community. When the location opened up on Douglas and Washington, we felt it was the perfect spot.”

At the new downtown location, Jury is aiming for more of an optical boutique style.

“The idea is a relaxing atmosphere with TV where people can look at glasses and drink coffee and be consistent with other Old Town venues,” he said.

Other services will include contact lenses and retinal imaging for early detection of things like glaucoma and macular disease.
