Celebration to honor Darwin and evolutionary biology

The Americans United for Separation of Church and State are hosting a party to celebrate Charles Darwin’s birthday.

The event is Feb. 9 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Best Western Airport Inn and Conference Center, 6815 W. Kellogg. Reservations are recommended although tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

The featured speaker is Teresa MacDonald, director of education at the University of Kansas Natural History Museum.

Charles Darwin was born Feb. 12, 1809. In 1859, his book “On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life” was published.
