Maybe if former President George H.W. Bush had not had so many specialists, he would have recovered from bronchitis as quickly as I did. Perhaps the next time he gets sick he should come to the local VA Medical Center, where I was seen immediately, treated and sent home.

I am changing my name to Cleanthony Early, and I think you should, too.

The national anthem sung at the WSU-Southern Illinois game was the best ever before a basketball game. We need a repeat of that beautiful voice. It was much appreciated to hear it sung in the pure sense.

After the first half of the Fiesta Bowl, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. Neither all the king’s men nor Bill Snyder and Collin Klein could put Humpty together again.

You see tattoos everywhere – validating the “monkey-see, monkey-do” principle. Hilarious. And sad.

Just because a person does not like or approve of the Israeli government and its actions doesn’t mean that person is anti-Semitic. We may disapprove of our president, but we don’t hate all Americans.

Your smaller paycheck is the result of your voting actions.

The new economy stinks. I want the old one back.

When our liberty is gone, life grows unbearable. Growing government, as is now occurring, is a path to taking away our precious liberty and forcing us into socialism.

In situations such as mass shootings, untrained people don’t have the ability to assess and process what’s happening quickly enough. Laypeople cannot adequately comprehend what actions are reasonable. Relying on gun-toting people to fight gun-toting people is a design for more disaster.

Retired Gen. Stanley McChrystal said some weapons should be carried only by soldiers. That is precisely why the founders gave the right to keep and bear arms to the people. When the government’s army has arms and the people do not, all rights of the people are gone, or soon will be.

If the police had not arrived when they did, the carnage in Connecticut likely would have been much worse. Guns in the hands of sane people are our best defense against those who would use them to take the lives of defenseless children or adults.

If we are serious about the mental health of our country, we should require anyone who thinks he needs an assault weapon to undergo a complete psychiatric examination.
