A man was killed Friday afternoon after he fell 40 to 50 feet while trimming a tree in the 1900 block of North Minneapolis, Wichita police said.
The man, who was in his 40s, was taken to Wesley Medical Center in critical condition after he fell shortly before 1 p.m. He died a short time later at the hospital, Sgt. Jeff Davis said.
He secured himself with a rope around his waist and tied the rope to a very large branch, Davis said.
“He began to saw a limb,” Davis said, “but he failed to realize that it was the limb he was attached to. The rope tightened up, like a slip knot. He held on for a while, but the weight of the limb pulled him down.”
The man was helping a friend and didn’t work for a tree-trimming company. His identity is being withheld until family is notified.
