Two children were placed in protective custody Wednesday after police found their living conditions to be unsuitable, officials said.
The 12-year-old girl and 11-year-old boy were taken to the Wichita Children’s Home at about 7:30 p.m. from the house near Harry and Seneca, Lt. Doug Nolte said.
The house was “very dirty,” Nolte said, and it was heavily infested with cockroaches. There was also a great deal of trash in the house, he said.
A 48-year-old relative who lives there and is the guardian of the children has been questioned in the case. The Department of Children and Families and the Exploited and Missing Child Unit have joined the investigation.
The case may result in finding assistance for the family rather than criminal prosecution, Nolte said.
