Wichita school board member Connie Dietz says she will not run for a fourth term on the board.

“It was a carefully thought out decision, and I did not make it lightly,” Dietz said Thursday. “I just felt like it was time for somebody else to come on (the board) and bring some new energy, some new thoughts.”

Dietz, a Wichita State University administrator who represents District 2 in east Wichita, joined the school board in 1999 and is its most senior member. During her time on the board, the district has passed two bond issues, hired superintendent John Allison and ended the practice of busing for integration.

Four of the seven Wichita school board members’ terms expire this year. Lynn Rogers and Betty Arnold filed for re-election earlier this week. Lanora Nolan, who represents District 5 in west Wichita, has not filed or said whether she plans to run.

The filing deadline for school board seats is noon Jan. 22. The primary is Feb. 26, and the general election is April 2.
