An opening, a reopening and a closing

1. Just opened -- Big B’s Beef, at 4628 S. Seneca: Monday was the opening day for Big B’s Beef, owned by Brian and Liz Bathgate and specializing in Chicago-style sandwiches, hot dogs, fries, soups and Italian beef and sausage. Big B’s has a drive-through window and will deliver food within a mile radius of the restaurant. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. 2. About to re-open -– Brints Diner, 4834 E. Lincoln: The Valentine diner, once featured in Guy Fieri’s Food Network show “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” was closed down by owner Jessie Medina in October. But Neighbor’s Restaurant & Bar owner Chuck Giles has taken it over and plans to reopen it in the next two weeks.

3. Just closed --On the Route Cafe, Baxter Springs: The well-regarded restaurant in Baxter Springs owned by Amy and Richard Sanell and also once featured on “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” has closed. The couple had operated the restaurant for 14 years in a building that was built in 1865.
