Maya Flores, a 2-year-old Wichita girl who was the subject of an Eagle story last year about her battle with leukemia, died from the disease Tuesday night at a local hospital, family members said.
Maya, who would have been 3 in April, entered the hospital on Monday night with pneumonia, family said. She was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia at 14 months.
The community responded with a fundraising event at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium to help her mother and father, Tabatha and Diego Flores, meet medical expenses. Maya was their only child.
