An 80-year-old pedestrian died Tuesday night after being struck by a vehicle as he was crossing Broadway near Second Street, a Wichita police sergeant said.

The accident was reported at 6:18 p.m., and the man was pronounced dead at 7 p.m. after being taken to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis, an emergency dispatch supervisor said.

The motorist who struck the man was going north on Broadway and reportedly didn't see the man. He was crossing Broadway from the west when he was struck just south of Second Street, police Sgt. Dave Armstrong said.

It's not clear where the man was headed, Armstrong said.
