Two teens – one of them wielding a shotgun – tried to rob a woman in the parking lot of the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita on Monday night, police said.

The woman refused to surrender her purse, however, and the teens then took off, Lt. Doug Nolte said. The incident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. in the parking lot of the medical center at 1010 N. Kansas, he said.

The 53-year-old woman said the boys appeared to be about 16 years old. The teen brandishing the shotgun was wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt, she said.

She did not get a good look at the second suspect’s clothing, Nolte said. The two suspects ran north of the medical center after confronting her.
