Mavericks beat Thunder 4-2

Missouri goalie Mike Clemente made 49 saves — 39 in the first two periods — as the Mavericks beat the Thunder 4-2 on Friday night Independence, Mo.

The Mavericks too a 2-0 lead in the first period. The Thunder made it 2-1 in the second period on a power-play goal by R.G. Flath, but that was the only Wichita goal on 25 shots in the period. The Thunder had a five-minute power play in the period when Missouri’s Andrew Courtney was called for boarding and given a game misconduct.

Missouri broke open the game with two goals in the first 4:09 of the third period. The Thunder’s Matt Summer completed the scoring with an unassisted goal.

The 51 shots was the most attempted by the Thunder this season.

Friday was the Thunder’s sixth meeting with the Mavericks this season. Wichita won the first five.

The Thunder has three games games left on its two-week road trip — all at Rapid City beginning Tuesday.
