Wichita native Scott Dold will be promoted to brigadier general in the Kansas National Guard during a ceremony Saturday in Topeka.

Dold, 51, is the chief of staff of the guard and will become the second in command on the military side of the agency, guard spokeswoman Sharon Watson said.

He joined the Marines in 1983, serving in Korea, Japan, Thailand and the Philippines. Shortly after graduating from the University of Kansas’ law school in 1990, he joined the Air Force and served as a judge advocate.

Dold, who lives in Lawrence, joined the Kansas Air National Guard in 1994 and has served as commander of the 190th Air Refueling Wing’s Mission Support Group.
