In the last hours of his life, investigators think, 42-year-old Shawn Rhone was going to deliver marijuana to someone.
The transaction apparently was to take place Wednesday night at a vacant house in the 1700 block of Northeast Parkway, around a bend from 13th and Oliver. But instead of completing a drug deal, Rhone suffered two gunshot wounds as someone tried to rob him and fired into his car shortly after 7 p.m. as he tried to escape, police Lt. Todd Ojile said Friday.
Ojile announced that four men, including two parolees, have been arrested in the shooting. Investigators have arrested all of the suspects involved in the shooting, he said.
Rhone drove a couple hundred yards along Northeast Parkway, pulled into a parking spot outside the QuikTrip at 13th and Oliver and told a customer he had been shot. Before he died at a hospital, he wasnt able to give any statement to detectives, Ojile said.
Ojile said police on Thursday arrested the four men in Rhones shooting and that they have been booked into jail on suspicion of first-degree murder.
Police and jail records identify the four suspects as Jerone H. Brown, 19; Milo J. Brown Jr., 21; Shawn M. Brown, 20; and Myron L. Peters, 19. Police think three of the suspects are relatives, Ojile said.
If the men get charged in the shooting, they wont appear in court until next week. Detectives wont be able to present their investigation to prosecutors until early next week.
Milo Brown and Jerone Brown were released on parole from prison less than a month before Wednesdays shooting, records show. Milo Brown, who has convictions for drug possession and criminal possession of a firearm in 2010, has been on parole since Dec. 11, Kansas Department of Corrections records show. Jerone Brown, who has convictions for burglary and theft in 2010, has been on parole since Dec. 19.
Three of the men arrested live near where the shooting occurred, Ojile said.
Investigators think that at least two men got out of a vehicle and confronted Rhone and that at least one of them fired multiple shots into his car.
