Roberts, Moran the same as Democrats
I would like to congratulate Sens. Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran, R-Kan., for voting with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and the vast majority of House Democrats to punish the most productive citizens in this country with higher tax rates and to authorize more spending that we cannot afford. Perhaps both senators can explain to Kansas voters how confiscating more earnings from the private sector to fund an insatiable Obama federal government helps the overall economic health of the United States.
With Republicans like these, who needs Democrats?

We pay for milk
The deal on the fiscal cliff means the price of milk won’t go up. But where does the federal milk subsidy come from? The American taxpayer – the same person who pays for the milk.
Congress has been quite successful fooling or misleading the American milk consumer. Yes, milk consumer, you can receive a lower price on milk if you are willing to submit a higher tax payment to the federal government. Since the tax payment has reduced the price of milk – while taking money out of the pocket of the American taxpayer – maybe Congress will be clever enough to provide free milk by increasing the subsidy. Then it would only have to increase the tax payment being made by the taxpayer.
All of the news articles I read merely report that the American milk consumer would have paid more for milk if the subsidy went away. I didn’t see any article point out the simple fact that the American milk consumer gets a lower price for milk because the milk producer receives a subsidy paid for by the same person who buys the milk – the American taxpayer.

Won’t compromise
We compromise in our lives every day. We compromise with our spouses, children, employers, employees, etc. Many members of Congress almost never compromise, and yet nothing will ever be done about it.
My first thought was that I will vote them out of office. However, former news anchor Tom Brokaw brought up a valid point Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” He said that the political process is “rigged.” He stated that a majority of politicians in Congress are from non-swing states and that even though they are incompetent, they won’t be voted out because they are only representing their constituents in their district or state.

Reeser an asset
I have known Stan Reeser for more than 15 years, and I have grown to admire his dedication to public service. His understanding of issues, especially local, would be a much-needed asset for our city leaders.
I am proud to call Reeser a friend. The city would benefit by having him on the Wichita City Council.
