A Wichita house painter with a wife and three children has won the $1 million prize in the Kansas Lottery’s Holiday Millionaire Raffle, lottery officials announced Thursday.

The man, who is in his 40s, chose to remain anonymous. He claimed his prize at the lottery headquarters in Topeka on Wednesday, producing the $20 ticket with the winning number of 120833.

He told lottery officials he was going to use the prize money to buy a car and house. The winner’s wife said winning was an answer to prayer.

“I prayed to God that we would win the $1 million because we really needed it,” she said. The family has lived in Wichita for 15 years.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Dillons at 1640 S. Broadway. The store will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the ticket.

Drawing for the annual raffle was Dec. 31. In addition to the top prize, the raffle produced 25 winners of $5,000; 25 winners of $1,000 and 2,500 winners of $100.
