Teen dies in Leavenworth crash

An Atchison teen died Sunday night after a vehicle she was riding in crashed in Leavenworth.

Desirae Crossland, 15, was a passenger heading east on U.S. 73 when the car she was in crashed about 5:48 p.m. near Country Road 33, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The car began to drift to the left, then driver over-corrected and lost control. The car crossed a ditch and crashed through a fence before rolling over into a pond.

Crossland was pronounced dead at St. John Hospital at 9 p.m. The 18-year-old driver and her other passenger, an 18-year-old woman, were injured. All three occupants were wearing seat belts, according to the highway patrol.
