Wesley Medical Center to expand recruitment of ER physicians

Wesley Medical Center and its affiliated facilities plan to expand emergency room physician and hospitalist recruitment efforts, according to Paul Petitte, executive vice president for marketing and public relations at Wesley.

“We’re always in need of ER physicians and always looking to recruit,” Petitte said. “Wichita is a tough market to recruit.”

Wesley, owned by Hospital Corporation of America, currently staffs emergency rooms at Wesley West, Galichia Heart Hospital and Wesley Medical Center using physicians from the Wichita-based Emergency Services Professional Association.

Now, HCA plans to have the association subcontract with a national company to expand its recruitment efforts beyond the area, Petitte said.

A national vendor has not been determined, but several are being considered.

“We’re looking at ones that have proven records and that can meet specific needs special to Wichita,” Petitte said. “We want to be able to maintain top quality doctors, to choose ‘la creme de la creme.’ When it comes to hospitalists or ER physicians, this gives us a wider reach.”

The move will not affect the positions of any current physicians, Petitte said.

The Emergency Services Professional Assocation currently contracts 16 ER physicians with Wesley, Petitte said, and has worked with Wesley for 43 years.
