Share the Season is an annual campaign that offers one-time aid to people affected by unforeseen hardships. The people are not identified to protect their privacy.

This single woman had her employment insurance expire in March while she remained without a job. She fell three months behind on her bills, and her car broke down for six months. When she found work in May, she had to pay $500 to get the car fixed.

“I have been stressing out ever since I got this job because I hired in at part-time and was only guaranteed 15 to 33 hours a week, so my work schedule varies,” she wrote in her application to Share the Season.

Her daughter and three children just moved out after seven years, which will help with expenses a little. But, she said, “I haven’t been able to go to the doctor to get my arthritis meds renewed because I owe an outstanding bill. And with winter coming up I’m worried about upcoming heating and electric bills.”

“It’s been real hard just keeping up with the gas, electric, water, just the normal stuff, and letting other things go,” she wrote.

So far, Share the Season has raised $183,850.
