Local schools recognized with Governor’s Achievement Award

Several schools in the Wichita area have been recognized as a part of the Governor’s Achievement Awards, which honors the top schools in the state.

Statewide, 42 elementary schools, 11 middle/junior high schools and 18 high schools were honored.

To receive the award, schools must reach the standard of excellence in reading as well as mathematics. It also must have made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in both reading and writing, and also one additional measure.

The additional measure for elementary and middle/ junior high schools is attendance, while the additional measure for high schools is graduation rate.

The school must have also been in the top 5 percent in both reading and math on this year’s state assessment.

Elementary schools

Holy Spirit Catholic School, Wichita; Oatville Elementary School, Haysville; Robert M. Martin Elementary School, Andover; South Breeze Elementary School, Newton; St. Joseph Elementary School, Conway Springs, St. Marks Elementary School, Renwick; St. Patrick Catholic Elementary, Kingman; Wellington Christian Academy, Wellington.

Middle schools

Andover Central Middle School; Dwight D. Eisenhower Middle School, Goddard.
