A 15-year-old boy who police say used his Twitter account to threaten to kill 20 students, his mother and himself was arrested Monday by Wichita police.
Lt. Doug Nolte said school officials in Maize, where the boy attends school, contacted Wichita police after learning about the tweet early Monday afternoon.
Detectives interviewed the boy at his home in west Wichita, Nolte said, and booked him into the Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center on a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge.
The boy told police that he wasnt serious about the threat, Nolte said, and he did not have access to the resources he would need to carry it out.
We do not believe it was a credible threat, he said.
The threat was an apparent reference to last weeks shooting in Newtown, Conn., where a 20-year-old man killed 20 children, six adults and his mother before killing himself.
We think it was a poorly-timed comment, and well let the juvenile DA handle the case as he sees fit, Nolte said.
Nolte said police take all threats of violence seriously.
