Two men were arrested after an armed robbery and extended chase in south Wichita early Friday morning, authorities said.

The two men forced their way into a residence in the 4500 block of South Elizabeth shortly after 3 a.m., a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said. That’s northwest of Seneca and Pawnee. Neighbors called 911 to report seeing men with guns.

One of the men had an AK-47 rifle and the other had a handgun, Lt. Doug Nolte said.

They forced a 28-year-old man to the floor in the living room. While one suspect held a gun to the victim, the second person searched briefly for something.

They left in a gold or silver Impala without taking anything, Nolte said. Based on that description, officers responding to the area spotted the Impala at 3:10 a.m. near MacArthur and I-235.

The resulting chase lasted about 12 minutes through residential neighborhoods, involving numerous turns, before the suspects finally were stopped at Georgia and Ellis at 3:22 a.m., the dispatch supervisor said. That is southwest of MacArthur and Hydraulic. The men arrested are 24 and 22, Nolte said.

Weapons were recovered, and the suspects were booked into the Sedgwick County Jail following questioning.

The incident is likely gang-related, Nolte said, because one of the suspects is a documented gang member and so is the victim who was held at gunpoint.

A total of four people were in the house at the time of the incident, Nolte said, but no injuries were reported.
