The Wichita area may lose more jobs than it adds in the first quarter, according to a quarterly outlook from employment agency Manpower.

In the latest survey, 9 percent of local employers said they expect to add workers between January and March, while 10 percent said they would cut. About 80 percent said they would maintain current staff.

The numbers reflect a significant drop from the net 12 percentage point gain forecast for the first quarter of 2012.

Job prospects appear best in wholesale and retail trade, financial activities, professional and business services, and government.

The worst sectors are construction, durable goods manufacturing, non-durable goods manufacturing, transportation and utilities, education and health services, and leisure and hospitality.
