A man in his 60s sustained critical injuries after an accident on the Kansas Turnpike left him briefly trapped in a vehicle, according to a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor.

The accident happened Thursday evening in the northbound lanes of I-35, south of toll booth near the Kellogg exit. The supervisor said emergency crews were dispatched to a report of a person pinned in a vehicle around 9:30 p.m. First responders were able to extract the victim quickly, he said.

The man was taken by Sedgwick County Emergency Medical Services to Wesley Medical Center for treatment, the dispatch supervisor said. A second person in the car suffered minor injuries but refused treatment.

The Kansas Turnpike Authority is on the scene. Check back for more details as they become available.
