Share the Season is an annual campaign that offers one-time aid to people affected by unforeseen hardships. The people are not identified to protect their privacy.
The mother is no longer employed because her 3-year-old daughter needs full-time care.
The girl was born prematurely. She has developmental delay, chronic respiratory disease, a tube for breathing, a tube for feeding, infantile cerebral palsy, and congenital anomalies of pulmonary artery, among other things.
“We have been struggling financially since her birth,” the 25-year-old mother said.
She has applied for jobs. But her daughter must see specialists in Kansas City twice a month, which makes it difficult to maintain a job.
This month, the daughter has been scheduled to have her breathing tube removed permanently. Share the Season has helped pay some utility bills to free up more money so the daughter can have the surgery.
“We could either have the surgery or pay the bills,” the mother said. “Now the bills are paid, and we can go to Kansas City for the surgery.”
She is hoping that with the breathing tube removed, her daughter’s health will become more stable.
So far, Share the Season has raised $90,952.
