Wichita State basketball is grabbing national attention in amounts not seen since the 1980s.

The Shockers (8-0) moved into the Associated Press top 25 at No. 24 on Monday. WSU spent five weeks in the poll last season, meaning it is in the top 25 in consecutive seasons for the first time since the 1981-82, 1982-83 and 1983-84 seasons.

WSU received 245 votes in the poll of writers and broadcasters, up from 99 the previous week when it stood two spots outside the top 25. The Shockers, one of 20 unbeaten NCAA Division I teams, would be ranked No. 27 in the USA Today poll of 31 coaches if the poll were expanded past the top 25. They received 47 votes to fall behind No. 25 Notre Dame (92) and Pittsburgh (89).

Kansas is No. 9 in both polls.

Creighton (7-1) dropped five spots to No. 16 in the AP poll after a 1-1 week that included an 83-70 loss to Boise State and an 80-51 win over Saint Joseph’s. It is No. 13 in the coaches poll.

WSU and Creighton were ranked together in the final three AP polls last season.

The Shockers, who defeated Air Force 72-69 on Sunday, are off until they face Northern Colorado on Saturday at Koch Arena. They will try to equal the program’s mark for an unbeaten start with a ninth victory.

Hall honored — WSU senior center Carl Hall earned Missouri Valley Conference player of the week honors.

Hall, from Cochran, Ga., averaged 18.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in wins over Air Force and Tulsa. He scored a career-high 21 points on Sunday’s win over Air Force, making 9 of 10 shots.

The top 25 teams in The Associated Press' college basketball poll, with first-place votes in parentheses, records through Dec. 2, total points based on 25 points for a first-place vote through one point for a 25th-place vote and last week's ranking:
